The City of Sacramento has completed a pilot program to turn eyesores into artwork.
About two dozen young artists from the community helped decorate boards that are used to cover windows and doors of abandoned homes.
Vincene Jones is with the Parks and Recreation Department.
"I've been out with community and neighborhood associations who, in their neighborhood meetings, complain about houses that are just boarded, weeds overgrown, nothing has been done," Jones says. "This is an incentive for the community."
Jones says she is hopeful the city council will make the program permanent and will pay for the paint required to decorate the boards.
The city already pays to board up homes and clean up abandoned lots.
