Twenty-eight names have been added to Sacramento's war memorial.
Paul Ruhkala owns the company that was hired to etch the names into granite tablets inside Sacramento Memorial Auditorium.
He uses a computer to perforate the names on a rubber sheet. He then glues the sheet onto a granite tablet and uses a scalpel to remove the perforated sections.
"The letters that are pulled where you see the granite and we do the sand-blasting and that recesses into the granite, cuts into the granite," Ruhkala says.
He then uses an acid to stain the names. Since the Spanish-American War, 976 Sacramentans have died in wars fought by the United States.
There are actually two memorials. When the first memorial ran out of space for names, a second one was created inside.
