(AP) — Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto has outraised her Republican rival Joe Heck recently in the race to replace Sen. Harry Reid, although Heck has more money in the bank.
Cortez Masto said she raised more than $2 million in the first three months of 2016. She had more than $2.5 million cash on hand at the end of March.
Three-term congressman Heck reported raising nearly $1.7 million last quarter, but reported having $3.8 million in the bank for the competitive race.
Cortez Masto is a two-term former Nevada attorney general endorsed by Reid as he prepares to retire. Democrats see winning the race as a critical step toward regaining the majority in the Senate.
Other candidates have filed for the Senate race, but Cortez Masto and Heck are heavily favored.
