The Sacramento City Council will consider Thursday whether to approve nearly $500,000 dollars for repairs to pool facilities.
The city council has already approved $185,000 for an assessment of its aquatic facilities currently being conducted by a private company. The assessment will consider the condition of the pools, decks, pumps, drainage and pool houses.
Some obviously-needed repairs have already been identified. The $475,000 request to be considered Thursday would go toward repairs to the Doyle, McClatchy and Mangan pool facilities.
"At Doyle Pool, we need to repair the concrete and the decking,” says Shannon Brown, Operations Manager with the Department of Parks and Recreation. “We're also going to be doing some ADA upgrades there as well. We also have a couple of fencing projects that we need to address immediately at McClatchy Pool. And also Mangan Pool House has a roof repair that needs to be made."
Brown says the city needs the assessment information so it can set repair priorities in the coming years. "What we hope to get is a guiding document that will be able to categorize the needs of the buildings and identifying what a critical repair project is and something that might need to be taken care of down the road.”
There are varying degrees of need for the city's twelve swimming pools and five wading pools.
