(AP) - A Northern California judge has denied bail for a man charged with hitting and killing two teenage boys with his pickup truck.
The Sacramento Bee reports that the judge on Tuesday heard emotional pleas from the dead boys' mothers to keep the 62-year-old Auburn man behind bars.
Police say 15-year-olds Trevor Keller and Jared Gaches were walking along State Route 49 with another teenage boy when the truck drifted and struck them Sunday. The third boy was not injured.
The driver was arrested for DUI. Prosecutors say he sideswiped another vehicle before Sunday's deadly collision and was convicted of a DUI in 2000.
The man appeared to have trouble hearing the proceedings at Tuesday's trial. The judge scheduled further proceedings for Thursday in a court room with amplifying devices.
