When officers went to their cars after Tuesday's memorial service for California Highway Patrol officer Nathan Taylor, they found gift bags with snacks and bottled water.
The bags are courtesy of the non-profit group, the End of Watch Fund. The bags also have thank you notes. One says, "We are sorry." Another reads, "Thank you so much for everything you do."
Erin Montgomery is the organization's president.
"We put out a plea for community help and the children in our community completed cards thanking the officers for their service," Montgomery says.
She says the Placer County and Elk Grove police officers run the non-profit. It has the goal of supporting families and co-workers when an officer dies.
Volunteers distributed about 2,000 snacks at the Taylor Service. They included peanuts, granola bars and fruit snacks.
