(AP) - Authorities say a Sacramento man who died in police custody appeared to suffer a seizure shortly before his death.
The Sacramento Bee reports that the county Coroner's Office says witnesses saw 31-year-old Edward Shabbaz Currie have a seizure in the jail nurse's station Saturday night. He was undergoing medical clearance to be booked in the jail.
Police say staff began CPR immediately but Currie was unresponsive. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Sgt. Justin Brown says police arrested Currie after finding drugs in his possession, although he would not specify what type of drugs.
Currie's father says his son had no history of seizures.
The coroner's office was expected to begin an autopsy Monday.
