An audit of construction contracts has found the Sacramento Kings are on pace to meet their local employment and contract goals for the new downtown arena.
Jorge Oseguera is the Sacramento City Auditor.
"The lion's share for sure of the contracts executed have been with local entities. As of our report, they were almost at $200 million worth of contracts executed with entities in the Sacramento County area. The next closest county was San Joaquin with $43 million."
The Golden 1 Center's estimated construction cost is about $500 million.
Oseguera says the Kings had been behind schedule in the use of local apprentices, but the number has doubled since September and the goal of 20 will likely be met.
The report shows 1163 people were employed from 10 counties from San Joaquin to Sierra. Another 340 people who live adjacent to those counties identified as "local" are also on the project.
