Voters in the city of Sacramento will be asked in June to renew an annual parcel tax that's currently $31.53 for the average single-family parcel and provides about $5 million per year for the library.
The Sacramento City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to put a renewal of Measure X on the ballot.
Renewing the tax requires a two-thirds vote of the public.
The Sacramento Library's funding comes from the tax, and from the city and county of Sacramento.
The tax is set to expire in 2017. Waiting until then to go to voters would require a special election. Proponents decided to put the tax on this year's ballot.
