How can the City of Sacramento improve services? A recent survey of residents returned no single answer.
The city held four community events this fall and asked people what it could do better.
John Silva is the city's Independent Budget Analyst.
"We thought a few categories would just be picked by everybody but they weren't. But, the themes that started to emerge were definitely the homelessness issue in the city, public transportation came up quite a bit, just providing some youth services."
Housing and job creation were also in the top five.
"While those were kind of the themes, none of those hit 20-percent of the responses. So, it still was scattered all over the place in terms of what people thought should be priorities."
Requests for more police and fire services were also frequent responses.
The city has about $22 million in unanticipated revenues from last year.
About $17 million are already allocated, but the city council will soon begin deliberations on how to spend the other $5 million.
When asked what the city does well already, the most frequent responses were: community outreach, public safety, and downtown revitalization.
