UC Davis Medical Center officials announced Thursday they have released train hero Spencer Stone, a U.S. Air Force Airman, after treating him for stabbing wounds.
Stone was taken to the hospital Oct. 7 after being stabbed in the torso following an altercation in Midtown.
In a statement through UC Davis, Stone expressed his gratitude to those who treated his injuries.
"Thanks very much to the first responders and the team here at UC Davis Medical Center for taking such good care of me," Stone said. "Thanks, also, to my amazing family and friends for their love and support. And, thanks to everyone who has sent encouragement during this challenging time. I'm focused now on healing and recovering and look forward to the next part of my journey."
Stone's mother, Joyce Eskel, says she has been overwhelmed by the support her son has received.
"Our family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the staff and providers at UC Davis Medical Center," Eskel said. "I'm especially grateful to [trauma surgeons] Dr. Ellie Curtis, Dr. Garth Utter, the entire trauma team and the ICU nurses who treated Spencer so well. We've been overwhelmed by the support from our family and friends, the Sacramento area, the Air Force, and people around the world. Thank you all."
Family members are asking the public to continue to respect their privacy.
Meanwhile, fellow hometown hero Anthony Sadler will be honored at the Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Education meeting Thursday night. Sadler attended Martin Luther King Jr. K-8 school and is a 2010 graduate of Rosemont High School.
