Even though the National Weather Service forecast calls for a chance of rain this weekend, the U.S. Forest Service will reinstate fire restrictions for the Eldorado National Forest Saturday less than two weeks after lifting them.
Jennifer Chapman is with the Forest Service. She says people will be allowed to make campfires only in fire rings at open campsites.
"We have now had an extended dry forecast and coming out of the Butte Fire, had a lot of public concerns expressed," she says. "So now we're going back into fire restrictions."
Chapman says they'll be dropped when the region receives significant rainfall.
The weather service forecast for after the weekend calls for temperatures well above average.
In the meantime, prescribed fire burns staffed with firefighters, water tenders and bulldozers will continue.
