While the outside of the new downtown arena takes shape, preliminary foundation work has begun for the new hotel next to the arena.
Crews spent last week testing the consistency of the soil and locating the depth of the bedrock at the corner of J and 5th Streets.
Chris Granger is the Sacramento Kings President. He says crews have moved on to the pile driving process.
"You'll start to see us go vertical within a few weeks or so."
This phase of Downtown Commons development around the arena includes the 250-room Kimpton Hotel, 128-thousand square feet of office space, and 300-thousand square feet of retail.
Three restaurants have agreed to be tenants. They are Punch Bowl Social, Pour Society and Sauced BBQ and Spirits. This is the first Sacramento site for any of the three.
The Kings plan to renovate existing retail stores that remain from the Downtown Plaza Mall this fall.
