Sacramento Regional Transit officially begins light rail service Monday to a part of South Sacramento that had been without.
Mike Wiley, general manager for Sacramento Regional Transit says the new "Blue Line" stop at Cosumnes River College is one of three new stops in the area and has been 20 years in the making.
"The project is extremely important," says Wiley. "It extends light rail further south. It gives access to thousands and thousands of people that live in the area south of Meadowview Road that currently don't have access to light rail."
The train will connect Sacramento City College with Cosumnes River College. Wiley says RT will add another stop on the Blue Line when a development at Morrison Creek is complete.
Trains will run every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends from 5 a.m. to midnight.
