Gov. Jerry Brown is continuing his public outreach efforts to call attention to California’s water shortage in this fourth year of drought.
He met with local leaders in San Diego Tuesday and praised the city for hitting state-mandated water conservation goals in recent months.
Brown said those water savings will be crucial as the state continues to battle wildfires.
"In the next month or two you're going to see more fires," he said. "So we have to stay vigilant and we have to be prepared to make the investments needed so that we have the water when we need it, and we protect ourselves from forest fires or other fires that are connected to the drought."
California beat the governor’s 25 percent water reduction mandate last month.
