Mountainside Partners and Sierra Pacific Industries say they have an agreement to turn 104 acres of forest land into the Brockway Campground.
Blake Riva with Mountainside Partners says there are 2,066 campgrounds around the lake, and only 46 are near the north shore.
"Between Tahoe City and Zephyr Cove, only 2 percent of the existing campsites are in the North Lake Tahoe area," says Riva.
The plans also include a dining area, swimming pool and a bike- rental and hiking-gear shop.
There would also be shuttle service from the campground to Northstar and the Kings Beach area.
Campers would use Highway 267 at the Brockway Summit to access the campground.
The cost for traditional campsites, permanent canvas tent sites, and camper sites would range from $35-to-$100 per night.
Riva says the project will cost between $3 million and $5 million.
Developers expect to submit the plan for 550 campsites to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and Placer County later this summer.
