Riders in Stage Four of the Amgen Tour of California men’s bicycle race once again reeled in a breakaway attempt by Daniel Oss (BMC Racing Team) and for the first time this tour, Peter Sagan (Tinkoff – Saxo) didn’t finish second.
Sagan blew by Oss and held off Wouter Wippert (Drapac Professional Cycling) and Mark Cavendish (Etixx –Quick Step) to win an uphill sprint to the finish in Avila Beach.
Sagan is still second overall and did not gain ground on leader Toms Skujins (Hincapie Racing Team).
Skujins won Stage Three Tuesday by 22 seconds. Rob Britton (Team Smart Stop), Julian Alaphilippe (Etixx –Quick Step) and Daniel Jaramillo (Jamis – Hagens Berman) round out the top-five.
Skujins leads the King of the Mountain (KOM) competition over Oss. Cavendish will continue to wear the sprinter’s jersey. Alaphilippe is leading the Best Young Rider competition.
Stage Five from Santa Barbara to Santa Clarita will feature four mountain stages and two sprints.
