Popular daycare and after school programs in the Sacramento City Unified School District will not be cut as parents had previously feared.
Thanks to a deal between the City of Sacramento and the school district, the "4th R" day care program at four elementary schools will remain open through the end of the school year.
The agreement was announced at Tuesday's City Council meeting.
Leanne Maucieri has two children in the afterschool program at Pony Express Elementary. She says she is pleased with the agreement.

The START after school programs will also continue at 17 of 18 schools. One school, Bret Harte Elementary, has chosen to drop START in favor of a different provider.
The Sacramento Chinese Community Services Center will take over the daycare program at Caroline Wenzel Elementary.
The City Parks Department had proposed cuts to the programs but the City and school district agreed to work together to reduce costs and increase spending for the programs.
The district and city will continue talking about how to fund the programs in future years.
Both are also counting on passage of a bill, SB 645, making its way through the California State Senate that would increase per-pupil reimbursement by a dollar.
