The Building Industry Association, the Stockton Chamber of Commerce, and the San Joaquin Partnership will meet with Stockton Mayor Anthony Silva this week.
They will push for a major reduction in residential housing development fees.
Building Industry Association CEO John Beckman says they will ask that the fees be cut from $56,000 per home to $38,000, that would be an $18,000 cut.
"With the fees at the rate they are you can't build a house in this city and sell it at anything that's going to cause you not to lose money. Lathrop, Manteca, Lodi their fees are lower, significantly lower than Stockton."
Beckman says before the recession Stockton built about 2,000 homes a year, but last year the number fell to 75, and the total over the last four years was only 350.
He says the fee reduction would be temporary and apply to the first 1,000 homes.
He says that would create 3,700 jobs and add millions to Stockton's economy.
The proposal is expected to be presented to the Stockton City Council next month.
