Parking meters there also take quarters, but no credit cards. There's no forgiveness if the meter runs out. A minute late and a quarter short can result in a 43 dollar parking ticket. But now the Downtown Stockton Alliance is giving the "Gift of Time".
Alliance CEO Cindi Fargo says Downtown Ambassadors will deposit a courtesy quarter in expired meters to buy an extra 15 minutes.
"I know what it feels like and I know that does not promote good will towards the people that are doing business in Downtown and that's one of our major priorities."
Darryl Bownes says if the ambassadors can save him a parking fine, he's all for it.
"If I see somebody I'd put a quarter in for them, but $43 is a lot. Yeah I think that would be a good idea."
Alliance CEO Fargo says with 1,600 meters Downtown, ambassadors won't get to all of them before they expire, but they will leave a courtesy note on every car where they buy the "Gift of Time."
