Five Sacramento-area fire departments have each received a brand new fire engine from California's Office of Emergency Services.
The Fire and Rescue Type-III Wildland Fire Engines have room for a four-person crew and have a 500-gallon water tank.
Cosumnes, Folsom, Sacramento City, Sacramento Metro, and West Sacramento Fire Departments are receiving engines.
Sac Metro Fire Chief Mark Wells says the Office of Emergency Services buys the engines and lends them to city and county departments to maintain and use when O.E.S. calls for help.
"It might be San Diego. It might be Shasta County to help on wildland fires. But, the reciprocal advantage of that here in Sacramento if we have a large event, they can come back in -all of those other agencies in the same master mutual aid plan- to help us."
OES also has 114 Type I engines and 12 water tenders at stations around the state.
Each of the engines costs about $270,000 fully-equipped.
OES has purchased 20 Type-III engines so far and plans to buy 20 more for other fire departments in the state.
