Body cameras were on the agenda as nearly 200 California police chiefs and sheriffs gathered in Sacramento this week.
The agenda for the legislative conference also included the classification of some misdemeanor crimes as felonies.
Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson says law enforcement agencies from around the state hope to be more involved in the legislative process.
"Most of these bills are in their infancy. We haven't seen what the entire language and content is," says Christianson. "Just being at the table and working directly with our state lawmakers is going to be important."
Most of the chiefs and sheriffs support changes to Proposition 47 that include restoring felony classification to some crimes.
Much of law enforcement is divided over the use of body cameras. Few agencies have them but many are testing them.
A bill currently in the legislature would create a task force to develop policy for agencies with body cameras.
