The Sacramento City Council will take more time to consider how to spend a multi-million dollar surplus.
City staff had asked that $17 million be spent on things like emergency radios, a streetcar project and technological upgrades to city systems.
But last night, Council Member Angelique Ashby pointed out the city actually has a $22 million surplus -including five million that was slated for a reserve fund. Ashby asked for a delay to collect feedback:
"It's much better for us to lay it all on the table at once and -just like you would budget at home- and figure out how much money do we have that we can work with and what are the funding ties to those dollars."
Last night, the Council did vote to reimburse the city's 3-1-1 system for costs associated with an increase in call volume from people reporting water waste.
The City Council also approved three full-time positions and restoration costs associated with re-opening Cabrillo Pool in south Sacramento this summer.
