The minimum wage is $9/hr and will jump to $10/hour next year.
The Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce is asking its members if they'd support another increase to the minimum wage in the city of Sacramento.
The chamber has emailed surveys to nearly 2,000 member businesses.
Sac Metro Chamber President Peter Tateishi says he anticipates the creation of a minimum-wage task force by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson. If the task force is created, Tateishi says he wants to have data showing how members feel.
"I don't think we really know if we have to. The mayor has said last year, late last year, that he would be putting a task force together. We're hoping to be able to have a seat a the table. When we're talking at the table, we want to fully understand know how our members stand on this issue," says Tateishi.
Each survey has four questions. Business owners can say if they support increasing the minimum wage and by how much. They can also say who they think should adjust wage rates and how an increase might affect business.
"They're concerned about minimum wage in general. But, when one city in a region that is effected by it, it really creates a -someone said it puts sand in the gears of our regional opportunities for growth when only one city is doing something differently than the others on something so important as minimum wage," Tateishi says.
The chamber hopes to have results by next week.
