The California Department of Water Resources has issued its preliminary forecast for the amount of water it can deliver in 2015 through the State Water Project.
Ted Thomas with DWR says they should total about 418,000-acre feet or 10 percent of the amount requested by farmers and water agencies. State Water Project Contractors requested 4,172,686 acre-feet.
"The delivery estimates are based on the amount of water that we have in storage in our reservoirs. It's also of course based partially on the weather outlook and the recent weather. These recent storms have actually boosted the initial delivery estimate."
In 2013, the initial estimate for 2014 was 5 percent. But, because of the drought, DWR delivered no water. That was the first time that had happened in the department's 54-year history.
