The City of Sacramento Department of Utilities reports Friday that city water customers saved more than one-billion gallons of water last month.
The Department says the city’s water demands were approximately 112 million gallons of water per day in August, compared to 147 million gallons of water per day in August 2013.
The 24 percent reduction exceeds the 20 percent conservation level Governor Jerry Brown has requested. The city also reports that Sacramento city departments reduced water use 34 percent in August compared to August 2013.
A report earlier this week from the California Department of Water Resources on July water use showed that the city of Sacramento reduced water use 22 percent compared to July 2013.
The Water Board report shows the Sacramento region saved the most, with a nearly 20 percent conservation rate.
