The City of Sacramento reported today that city water users saved about 22 percent, or more than one billion gallons of water in July compared to the amount used a year ago.
The City says the water savings are equal to the annual water usage of about 6,900 homes.
Sacramento officials also say city departments achieved a 30 percent water use reduction last month, compared to July 2013.
City officials also say a lot more people have been calling in to report water wasters. Since January 1, the City received nearly 12,000 calls for water conservation investigations, compared to about 800 calls for investigation over the same time period last year.
