The Sacramento International Airport says at the close of business Thursday Starbucks, California Pizza Kitchen, Burger King, Lemon Grass and LaBou will all have left Terminal A.
The airport's Laurie Slothower says the businesses are contracted with the concessionaire HMSHost.
"HMSHost, who's our very good partner, but they couldn't get corporate financing to make some of the improvements they needed to make at Terminal A."
Concessionaire SSP stepped in and signed a ten-year lease agreement with the airport.
"SSP said, 'Yes, we'll do it.' And they're spending $3 million up front to remodel the food court area," says Slothower.
Peet's Coffee will replace Starbucks immediately and will be a permanent replacement. Temporary restaurants include Rebar Restaurant and other restaurants operated by the concessionaire.
"SSP is putting in these temporary storefronts while they remodel the food court," Slothower says. "But in about eight months, there's going to be five new restaurants -three of them only in Sacramento. We want to give people the same sort of flavor of Sacramento that they have in Terminal B and to offer it in Terminal A."
Next year, Paesano's and Squeeze Inn will become permanent fixtures. The third Sacramento-based restaurant has yet to be named.
The changes do not affect Terminal B.
The rendering above shows what the new restaurants will look like. Quiznos Sub previously occupied this space and will be replaced by Jetbox Market.
