Even though the roadway construction part of the FIX 50 project in Sacramento was supposedly finished two weeks ago, anyone who has driven through the area could tell more work needed to be done.
Visibility late in the afternoon has been particularly poor on westbound U.S. 50 where Highway 99 and the Cap City Freeway merge. The roadway has had a combination of hard-to-see, temporary lane striping, sun glare and black diagonal lines across the lanes.
Myers and Sons Construction started painting new, permanent lane markers along the fast lanes Tuesday night with a goal of being finished Thursday morning.
Deanna Schoopman with Caltrans says there was a reason the temporary lines were almost the same color as the roadway.
"They tried to do the most temporary painting so that way it doesn't mess up the highway when you go to grind it down. Because if you went in with real paint, then you would have lines all over the place. You wouldn't be able to match your lines up."
Schoopman says construction crews had to wait two weeks for the road to cure completely before the plastic used in the permanent lane markings would adhere.
