Opponents of a Sacramento arena built with public funds have filed a lawsuit to stop the project.
The suit claims the City of Sacramento and the Sacramento Kings violated the California Environmental Quality Act and that a state law passed last year to help the arena project is unconstitutional.
Sacramento City Manager John Shirey appears on Capital Public Radio's Insight program today and says the construction timeline will not be effected by any lawsuits.
"The Kings will advance their money first so that this doesn't delay the project. So in other words, the plan is for the Kings to use their part of the contribution to get the project going. We can then do a short term borrowing."
Money for the $477 million project will come from both the Kings and the City. The City plans to sell bonds to recoup its portion. Shirey admits that a lawsuit against the arena could hold up those bond sales.
An attorney named Patrick Soluri has already filed a lawsuit against the arena project. At Tuesday night's council meeting, he announced a new signature gathering campaign to force a public vote on the arena.
