Beginning this week, Sacramento's "Second Saturday" arts and culture events will include events that start earlier than in the day and that will include the Midtown Farmers Market.
Second Saturdays is a loosely-formed grassroots movement that focuses on arts and culture. The events have typically started late in the afternoon or evening.
The Midtown Business Association has joined with the Midtown Farmers Market to open some events in the morning and afternoon. There will be chef demonstrations, beer and wine tasting and a dog park for small dogs.
Emily Baime Michaels has been head of the association since July.
"Bringing agriculture out of the fields and right into the center of the community, to providing activities for families, allowing people who have a dog as part of their family to have an amenity for them to enjoy then highlighting that midtown has some of the best chefs in the region," she says.
Baime Michaels says the association is building a new web site that will help people find Second Saturday events more easily. The group is also working with bicycle advocates to improve parking and riding conditions to and from events.
The newly-added events will start as early as 8 a.m.
Midtown typically sees the most traffic for the Second Saturday events from April through October.
