Brian Guido, one of the organizers, says the week includes events with deejays, contests and a contest where 12 chefs compete to create dishes using locally sourced house-cured bacon
"And then we also have pairings with breweries and food trucks and things like that." Guido says.
He says Bacon Fest is held in late January for a reason.
"Because everybody during the holiday season has spent all their money on gifts and parties and going out and things like that," he says. "So this is typically a slower time in the restaurant industry. It's just a way to kind of generate business back into the restaurants."
The seven-day event also includes a bacon-inspired cocktail competition and "how to" classes on bacon curing.
Bacon Fest is expected to provide a $250,000 bump in sales for the local restaurant industry.
Most of the eateries are in midtown and downtown Sacramento, but restaurants in East Sacramento, Land Park, Davis, Elk Grove and Rocklin are also taking part.
The event comes on the heals of "Dine Downtown," another promotion intended to attract more customers during a traditionally slow time after the holidays.
