The Sacramento City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to put a parcel tax for libraries on the June ballot.
Third grader Joseph O'Toole goes to Leonardo DaVinci School in Sacramento. He was one of about a dozen people speaking in support.
"Libraries should be open every day so that people will have more time to use them. I'm nine-years old so I can't vote on the ballot measure. I am counting on the adults in my community to do the right thing."
~Joseph O'Toole
If the parcel tax is approved, the owners of single-family residences would see a $12 dollar annual increase. Homeowners making 80 percent of the county's median income or less could apply for a tax waiver.
Two-thirds of voters must approve the measure for it to take effect.
