The two specimens were carried from space on the Apollo 11 and Apollo 17 missions. They're on display for the next three months at the Keck Museum at the University of Nevada, Reno. The tiny rocks are featured alongside miniature state flags that also made the trip to the moon.
The rock from Apollo 17 in 1972 is about the size of a dime. The one from Apollo 11 in 1969 -- the historic landing featuring Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin - is actually a bunch of tiny specks.
The rocks were presented to the state more than 40 years ago, and are on loan from the Nevada state museum in Carson City.
State museum officials say a rumor has swirled for more than a decade that the moon rocks were lost --- but they've actually never been missing.
