The Field Poll finds just over half - 51 percent - of registered voters approve of the way President Obama is doing his job. That's the lowest figure in two years.
43 percent now disapprove, which is up 8 points since the Field Poll's last measurement in July. The newly disapproving include segments of voters who have been strong supporters of the President, such as independent voters, Latinos and union-affiliated households.
The survey finds about half of voters disapprove of President Obama's handing of health care.
The Field Poll also asked California voters whether they think the U.S. is moving in the right direction. 55 percent say it is seriously off on the wrong track.
