A warm wind whips a flag at the national weather service office on a hill overlooking Reno. Today the city sits under massive cloud formations that typically come before a storm. But this storm is different. Usually storms come from the west and hit the mountains. This one is cold, from the north, and Weather Service meteorologis Zach Tolby says that’s significant.
“Because it is coming from the north we are going to see more of the impact in the metro area rather than up in the mountains. It will really impact the reno carson metro area during the morning commute on tuesday,” Tolby said.
The storm warning will start at four a.m. with rain turning to snow about seven, three to six inches in places. Dozens of accidents are typical in early morning storms and the school district will decide on possible transportation delays after five a.m. Donner Pass is expecting eight inches of snow with flurries continuing through Wednesday.
