December is typically a slow month for the hotel industry in Sacramento, so the CIM comes at a good time.
Brenda Kirian is with the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Sacramento, across the street from the state Capitol on L Street. The hotel is located near the CIM finish line.
"The marathon is great for us because it's the first Saturday of the month and it's great to fill out in a month like December that's a little slower than some of the other months of the year."
The event is expected to generate more than 2,500 hotel room reservations. Mike Testa is with the Sacramento Convention and Visitor's Bureau. Testa says CIM pumps about $7.5 million into the local economy.
"That's made up of the folks coming from out-of-town staying in hotels, eating their meals out, also made up of some locals from around the region who will come in and spend money within Sacramento."
CIM officials say 9,000 marathoners and 4,000 relay runners will take part in the 26.2 mile race which begins near Folsom Dam on Sunday at 7 AM.
