Several appointments today come as the department begins dealing with some big challenges.
The acting director of the state’s DMV, Jean Shiomoto has been permanently appointed to the position by Governor Jerry Brown. Five other deputy director positions were also filled.
The leadership team will be handling a department with a lot on its plate. The DMV is in the process of creating regulations for driverless cars. It’s also starting to develop driver licenses for undocumented immigrants in the state.
The combined salaries of all six appointees total more than $760 thousand a year.
