Joan Bohmann coordinates school psychology services for the Washoe County Unified School District. She says police and counselors were visible and available to talk with anyone affected by the shooting.
"We want to provide an education component letting staff, faculty, and students know what are typical signs in themselves of response to a traumatic situation, you know reassuring them that what they're experiencing is normal," Bohmann says.
Members of the National Association of School Psychologists sent counselors to support the school district staff. The school held two events late last week with counselors available to anyone who wished to talk.
The district says about three dozen students were absent today out of 600 total.
