In the first three days since Nevada Health Link opened for business, a call center with 50 employees in southern Nevada has taken nearly 4,000 calls. Some people needed help logging-in, and others had eligibility questions.
Some 19,000 people have created accounts to buy insurance. CJ Bawden of Nevada Health Link says the agency expected 15,000 users by now, but instead they had 77,000 online hits, and not just from Nevada.
“People were really curious, about what was happening and were these exchanges like Nevada health link going to get off the ground on day one." - CJ Bawden, Nevada Health Link
The heavy traffic caused the system to crash for a while. Bawden says the problems have been resolved, but there may still be a long wait.
He says there are 605,000 uninsured people in Nevada. The goal is to insure 118,000 of them in 5 months.
