DeDe Cordell with the Corps says most levee repair and dam improvement projects have carryover funding that will last long enough to avoid any project interruptions. But, some projects with year-to-year funding will be effected.
"We're looking at having to furlough at least 22 employees right away," she says. "If we don't get some funding within the next couple of days, we're going to have to start furloughing additional employees."
Nineteen of the 22 employees certain to be furloughed are in California.
Many projects like the new Folsom Dam spillway have already been funded and will not be effected.
Cordell says the Corps operates ten parks in the state and those will be able to stay open if a spending bill is signed within a couple of days.
If the impasse lasts a week, she says, parks like the one at Englebright Lake east of Marysville and Valley Springs east of Lodi will certainly close.
The Corps employs about a thousand of the thirteen-thousand federal employees who work in California.
