A local group has been collecting signatures to put a measure on the ballot that would require public votes on major projects. The group, called STOP received money from a previously unnamed source. The Fair Political Practices Commission launched an investigation after the Sacramento Metro Chamber and a group called downtownarena.org filed a complaint. Today, Gary Winuk with the FPPC announced Chris Hansen was the man who gave $100,000 to a political action committee sponsoring the campaign, but didn’t report the contribution as required by law.
“This to us is a glaring example of at best negligent and at worst purposeful deceptive behavior that was aimed at depriving the Sacramento public the knowledge it’s entitled to about who is funding campaigns,” says Winuk.
The investigation into the failure to report the donation will continue. Hansen and the political action committee face $95,000 in fines and possibly a misdemeanor charge.
