Last year, 10 people were infected with hantavirus in Yosemite National Park. Three of them died.
The virus is spread by infected deer mice which were able to get between the walls of double insulated tents
All of the victims stayed in Curry Village, which has canvas tent cabins.
Lisa Cesaro of Delaware North, the company that manages Curry Village, says 91 of those double walled cabins have been replaced this year with traditional single wall tents.
"With the traditional tent cabins the advantage of that is obviously it's really easy in terms of when you are cleaning and no walls, so it's really open area, you can see any type of rodent activity quite easily," Cesaro explains.
Maintenance workers are spending more time on cleaning tents, and other buildings within the park.
Cesaro says visitors have returned to Curry Village in numbers equal to last summer.
