The Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District says many dead birds and mosquitoes have tested positive for the disease in the area. The district is conducting aerial treatments in rural and agricultural areas and localized ground fogging in urban areas.
The district says virus activity has also increased in parts of Yolo County, especially in Davis and Woodland…and that the abundance of mosquitoes found in its traps is the highest in a long time.
There’s been one human case reported so far in Sacramento County.
West Nile Virus is also increasing statewide. So far, it’s been detected in 24 California counties.
Last year, there were 479 human cases and 20 fatalities.
