Al Gibes was the Director of Digital Strategy, responsible for keeping Capital Public Radio on the leading-edge of meeting members' desire for news, information and music on all digital platforms and creating new ways to engage listeners and supporters. He joined Capital Public Radio in January 2012 and has been involved with digital and interactive media for more than a dozen years. He worked behind the scenes, leading the development of two of the top travel websites and in the public eye as a columnist covering the continuing digital revolution.
Prior to joining the staff, Al directed the team that developed and maintained the original LasVegas.com and Hawaii.com sites, along with dozens more for Stephens Media LLC. He authored more than 650 columns and hundreds of blog posts about technology trends and the role of technology in our lives as The Online Guy for the Las Vegas Review-Journal and Reviewjournal.com.
Before turning his attention to the Internet, Al was an award-winning photojournalist for more than 17 years, working at newspapers in New Mexico and Colorado before joining the Las Vegas Review-Journal as news photo editor. Al's early work in digital photography lead to his move to Nevada, where he helped the photo staff and production department refine procedures and set photo reproduction standards at the newspaper. He is a graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a degree in photojournalism.
When not working, Al enjoys hiking, photography and spending time with his German Shorthair Pointers. He is married to Diane Lancaster Gibes and he has three grown children.

The skies above Rancho Cordova roared with the sounds of military jets and vintage airplanes Sunday, as the California Capital Air Show finished its 10th anniversary weekend show. Tens of thousands of people flocked to Mather Field for the event.

Jacob Chemtai won the men's division and Volha Mazuronak set a female course record in winning the women's division of the 2014 California International Marathon. We got a glimpse of the runners and spectators at the 20-mile mark.

October's historical gathering of 1,000 musicians performing at Sacramento's Memorial Auditorium is available for viewing three more times in the coming weeks.

A dream became reality Sunday when 1,000 symphony musicians, ages 4 to 80-plus, came together for a performance at Sacramento's Memorial Auditorium. It was the largest-ever gathering of symphony musicians to perform in California.

The new Sacramento Kings management team have picked their first players from the National Basketball Association draft. The Kings selected shooting guard Ben McLemore with the seventh overall pick. McLemore played at the University of Kansas.
